The Road More Chosen
To the Right, then.
The Tower juts up; a bell's best friend, sandy stone minaret hog-calling the faithful to trudge on bended knee up a slippery Slope. Grass fades out where feet step new, shoe-scented ant trails, growing to dirt.

Bridging
With tires on metal grate, you pass above the gorge below, bubbling froth of upstream rainstorms. Catching your first views of former Tudor splendor and cliff-side motel neon, the road raises once more and offers a choice of Avenue to the left, and Road to the right.

Scaling
State Street climbs and the gear shifts down, with a belching bus, more often than not, leading you to the next major stop. It's a tricky corner; every car rolling mindlessly downhill takes their one chance to run the light and broadside whatever's in their path.
Bricks again, on Stewart Ave - the first glimpse of period buildings is broken by ramshackle college tenements, their overgrown lawns strewn with stray cups, bottles and cans. It's a little like San Francsico, only tree-lined.

Hang A Right
Past IC, heading further down the hill on Route 96B, you hit the bricks of yesteryear's roads. Left and right are students: hanging out on porches, walking (all the way up?) to their campus. A sturdy lot, these.
Once over a small bridge and in sight of the Commons, a quick yield right begins to take you up the Your Hill, leaving the flat glacier plain of downtown as your ascent begins.

At First Sight
When you finally make it over the brow of East Hill, and see the entirety of the Lake laid out your driver side window, you know you're almost Home. There's ICB blasting the radio, giving you another 15 minute music appreciation lesson that will likely precipitate at least 4 new CD purchases over the weekend.
You can taste it: Hot Truck, Ro-Ro, Liquid Heat, Garden....or maby a Tuna Surprise...or just a PMP. But that's for late night. There's more to Athené than just beer-sponging sandwiches.
